Borderlands Immersion, McAllen, TX - July 11 - 15, Dr. Hugo Magallanes and Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey

GTE Immersion Courses are regular academic courses taught off-campus in culturally complex situations. Students are expected to pay for their tuition, fees, and any travel costs. Travel stipends are available, and application can be made below.

 

Students enrolling in this course will need to consult the faculty leader for details concerning readings, assignments, and specific travel requirements related to physical disabilities. 

 

Please note the following important details:

Travel day: Friday, July 10--everyone should arrive at McAllen on Friday and check in at the hotel

First day of class: Saturday morning, July 11

Last day of class: Wednesday, July 15, our class time will conclude no later than 3 pm. 

 

So, the official dates of the class will be July 11-15, with full days of work 11-14, and half day on Wed. 15.

 

Students will be responsible for making their own transport arrangements to and from McAllen, TX.

Travel Cost: TBA

Fields with asterisk are required.

The full cost of room, board, and site related fees is expected to be $1200 plus travel to and from the immersion site. 

 

Travel stipend grants are not related to other financial aid awards.

Travel stipends for this immersion cover room, board, and other site related fees from July 6 to 11.

They do not cover the cost of travel to and from the location, which is the student’s responsibility.

 

Travel stipends will be granted on the basis of need, as determined solely by the student’s FAFSA information.

Students may request that their FAFSA be amended if it does not reflect their current financial circumstances.

Travel stipend decisions may not be appealed.
