ARISE Drone Design Challenge

The ARISE Drone Design Challenge is a drone competition created by teachers for high school students. Each team will build and program a stock drone with a specified range of parts. With this one registration, your team is registered for all four events that will occur during the competition: 1) Line of Sight flying competition, 2) Autonomous Flight competition, 3) Design Presentation, and 4) Project Management Presentation.

ARISE Drone Summer Professional Development

ARISE Drone Summer Professional Development

Join us this summer for the ARISE Drone Summer Professional Development (PD)!

 

Date: June 24-June 28, 2024

Where: SMU Campus, Dallas TX:https://www.smu.edu/AboutSMU/Maps

Time: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM CDT each day

Cost: Full training is $500! Or $1,500 with drone.

Drone: You can bring your own, or purchase one with registration (See attached flyer). Stock requirement is an PixHawk or compatable flight controller. 400 to 600 mm diagonally, gps, camera.

*Travel, food, and lodging not included. 20 hours of continuing education Credit upon request

 

The purpose of the ARISE Drones in the Classroom Summer PD is to introduce teachers to the world of Drone Design, the ARISE Drone Curriulum, and the ARISE Drone Design Competition. During this training you will be provided with a year of curriculum for a high school capstone course on drones. This PD is designed for high school teachers interested in designing drones for classes and competition.

 

PD Schedule

Five days of PD from June 24-June 28, 2024. The PD will be held at the beautiful SMU Campus in the heart of Dallas, TX.

Introductions

Drone Curriculum: What standards does it address?

Stock Drone introduction: Why this drone? Because you can design it!

Putting the Drone together

Drone parts and how to find them: Motors, ESC, propellers, flight controller, batteries, gimbles

Drone Sensors: GPS, gyro, accelerometer, compass,

 

Tuesday June 25, 9:00-4:00 PM

Drone Regulations: Part 107 Certification, teacher rights

Flying a drone safely: Watch the propellers!

Flying the drone: Yaw, pitch, roll, assent and descent

Drone Build: Continue to put the drone together

 

Wednesday June 26, 9:00-4:00 PM

Using drones at schools: how to begin (small drones or simulations) Part 107, nets and netting, inside vs. outside, safe flying area

Drone Competition Introduction: What you need? game pieces, potential cost, where to compete? stock parts, rules vs. missions, practice time

Prototype game—Line-of-sight and autonomous

Design your robot to play the game

 

Thursday June 27, 9:00-4:00 PM

Flight Controller: Configuring the Drone

Drone Programming: Way Points and auto flight controls

Drone communication: Controller, radio receiver, radio transmitter, video transmitter

Ground station/telemetry

Adding a servo for drop activities

Adding a camera: two camera switching

 

Friday June 28, 9:00-4:00 PM

Flight Tests!

We will run through a flight test of the Line-of-Sight challenge in the morning.

We will run through the autonomous flight challenge in the afternoon.
